The Northside Business District experiences some changes, as our small businesses struggle to keep up with the ongoing pandemic, and some new businesses opened despite it! Read on to see the Northside business comings and goings and moves to new locations, etc:


BUSINESS CLOSINGS + REPLACEMENTS + RELOCATIONS


• JaeNicole Styles moved to Springdale, new business moving in to 4206 Hamilton Avenue, TBA

• Vigorous Shades closed, new business moving in soon (Brillance MBA?), 1568 Chase Avenue

• WordPlay Cincy moved to their very own new building at 1556 Chase Avenue, corner of Brookside, next to UDF, January 2022

• For Goodness Shakes and Juicery closed, and a new smoothie and juice bar is set to open in its place February 1st, The Essential Spot Co., 4119 Hamilton Avenue

• Taqueria 251 closed, and Cantina Agave opened in its place Oct. 2021, offering agave spirits, tacos, and more, with Mexican hospitality, in the Gantry building, 4110 Hamilton Avenue

• NorthChurch, aka North Presbyterian Church, closed after 166 years, and a new owner is establishing a wellness nonprofit, Heart in Balance, https://heartinbalance4health.com, 4222 Hamilton Avenue

• SPUN Bicycles moved to 4033 Hamilton Avenue and plans to reopen in February 2022• NVISION relocated to a studio in the Factory Events building, 1546 Knowlton Street, offering clothing alterations and personal styling now by appointment only

• Old Souls Collective opened at 4577 Hamilton Avenue, next to the Comet, offering tattoos by several artists, by appointment and walk-ins

• Cryptogram Ink, a visual arts and print studio, opened at 4575 Hamilton Avenue

• Rainbow Cincinnati opened in the former Thunder-Sky Inc space, 4573 Hamilton Avenue, a gallery showcasing art by underserved artists

• Northside dentist Dr. Thielen retired, and sold his practice to Northside Dental Ryan Durner, DDS, LLC, Feb. 2021, 4254 Hamilton Avenue

• Northside ShipIt opened at 4202 Hamilton Avenue, across from Happen Inc., offering shipping services and supplies, parcel pickup and receiving, and local print services• Pinnokio’s Hair Studio returned to Northside, from a stint downtown, now located at 4178 Hamilton Avenue

• Angelique Johnson Photography opened at 4174 Hamilton Avenue, February 2021, doing photography for professionals, headshots, personal branding, product photos

• Katch The Kitchen Restaurant & Bar opened at 4172 Hamilton Avenue, March 2021

• Smoke Shop opened at 4141 Hamilton Avenue

• the__curve_connection opened at 4139 Hamilton Ave, offering clothing for women size 14-20

• Castaways Recycled Style opened at 4137 Hamilton Avenue, offering Vintage, Antiques, Repurposed, Salvage, Furniture, Art, and Nautical items

• IVY Salon opened in the Gantry, May 2021, 4108 Hamilton Avenue

• P.O.U.R. Lounge just opened on NYE at 4034 Hamilton Avenue, (P.our O.nly U.nique & R.are), serving drinks and foods in an upscale setting

• Gulow Street opened at 1614 Hoffner Street, corner of Gulow, a neighborhood bar/kitchen focused on a limited menu of quality ingredients and creative specials

• The Lounge, a 1970s styled cocktail lounge, opened in the Liberty Exhibition Hall, back of the ground floor, 3938 Spring Grove Avenue

• Northside Express, a convenience store, opened at 1734 Blue Rock Avenue across from Dojo Gelato

DEVELOPMENTS


• ADDITIONALLY, our neighborhood Community Development Corporation (CDC) NEST – Northsiders Engaged in Sustainable Transformation acquired the former Stagecraft building located at the base of the Ludlow Viaduct, and is partnering with a developer to come up with a plan to transform this key property anchoring our Southern Gateway. Look for more updates and information to be released in the coming months.

• ONE MORE THING, NEST and Pennrose Properties broke ground at 4145 Apple Street, on the new John Arthur Flats, in July 2021; construction will complete late spring 2022. The project is a 57-unit affordable housing complex for independent senior living in the LGBTQ community.
