Churches Active In Northside (CAIN) is a 501(c)3 community-based neighborhood ministry. Our mission is connecting our community to challenge poverty by feeding bodies and souls. CAIN exemplifies churches working together across denominational lines and in conjunction with other organizations, groups, schools, and businesses.

CAIN is an oasis in the Northside food desert: building community and extending compassionate care and hospitality to its most vulnerable neighbors. CAIN does not serve clients, or even customers; anyone who receives services is treated as and referred to as a guest. This core practice ensures that each person is respected, valued and given individual attention to overcome barriers of stigma and shame for seeking assistance.

CAIN assists 45223 ZIP code households who are low-income and under-resourced with food and other necessities, meals, and shelter. CAIN currently impacts the lives of over 500 households each month through three core ministries:

CAIN’s Rainbow Choice Food Pantry offers both day and evening hours to increase access to healthy, high-quality, and safe food for food-insecure families in Northside. Pantry guests receive vital stabilization services including nutrient-dense food; household and hygiene items; referrals; and on-site application for critical supports including SNAP (food stamps), Medicaid and Earned Income Tax Credit. Most importantly, each person is met with individually for support, encouragement and referral information.

Phil’s Place is a free community weekly dinner that provides food, fosters a sense of belonging and builds community.

Grace Place offers temporary shelter without cost to families who are in transition from homelessness. As a host site for the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Grace Place residents receive support to find and retain stable housing.
