CAIN is a 501(c)3 community-based organization that provides safety net services for low-income individuals and families. Our mission is connecting our community to challenge poverty by feeding bodies and souls. CAIN exemplifies people working together in conjunction with other organizations, groups, schools, and businesses.

CAIN is an oasis in the Northside food desert: building community and extending compassionate care and hospitality to its most vulnerable neighbors. CAIN does not serve clients, or even customers; anyone who receives services is treated as and referred to as a guest. This core practice ensures that each person is respected, valued and given individual attention to overcome barriers of stigma and potential shame for seeking assistance.

CAIN assists all households, regardless of zip code, who are low-income and under-resourced with food and other necessities, meals, and transportation. CAIN currently impacts the lives of over 800 households each month through three core programs:

The Market at CAIN offers both day and evening hours to increase access to healthy, high-quality, and safe food for food-insecure families in Northside. Pantry guests receive vital stabilization services including nutrient-dense food, diapers, menstrual products, and pet food as available. Guests can connect with resources from local social service organizations like food benefits, free wifi access, legal aid, and other safety net services. This is possible through partner agencies that bring resources to CAIN and its guests.

Phil’s Place Community Meal is a free community weekly dinner that provides food in a carryout fashion and stocks the Free Fridge (a 24/7 food access point on CAIN’s property) with leftovers.

Poverty Liberation Collective is a group of community members who all have lived experience in poverty that work together to identify and address issues that impoverished individuals and families face in the Greater Cincinnati area.
