Our Library: Our Decision – A Conversation on Public Space

October 7, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Library Board of Trustees – a group of bankers, lawyers, business executives with ties to real estate developers – made the decision to close and potentially sell off the North building of our public library’s Main Branch. The result would be the loss of a scare public resource: free, enclosed public space. The decision regarding the fate of our public institution was made with little to no public input. We demand the public have a voice in these decisions.

Come join in a conversation about the value of public space. Whether through new social resources or expanded library services, how could this building better serve the public? Come bring your ideas, your experiences, your passion. The Board has spoken only to finding a “highest and best use” for the site, using a real estate term about maximizing profitability. As a creative community, we can find a “highest and best use” that puts people over profits. Together we can create a vision for a public future for the North building.
