Basement Reggae Dance Party: Bashment 101 Edition

New to Basement Reggae? Let this month’s edition, Bashment 101, be your introduction to what we have to offer: your favorite dancehall reggae classics, all spun strictly on vinyl, in an actual basement…at THE COMET in Northside! It’s like a reggae house party in your cool grandma’s basement, complete with a small bar (full bar upstairs) staffed by our badass Basement Reggae bartender Corinne! DJs Abiyah and Grover alternate sets every 30 minutes to keep it fresh for the people!

Each month, we also have a custom punch concocted by Corinne; past punches have included the Peach Power Punch (a peach bourbon punch topped with champagne), the One Love (a pink lemonade rum punch), the Queen Midas (a golden pineapple rum punch), and the Sunsplash (a delicious vodka lemonade punch accented with thyme).

This is definitely not a sit-down affair…it’s DANCING all night long! Queen City Imperial Soundsystem lays down the reggae vinyl vibes, from the mid-70s through the mid-00s, for your dancing pleasure! There ARE a few barstools, tables and a bench in the basement if you need to take a quick break from dancing, but you can also head upstairs for a breather where there is plenty of seating in the bar and dining/music room area.

For the uninitiated, here’s a rundown on how we run tings on Basement Reggae Night: around 10:30pm, we start a little slower with some smooth riddims so you can chill and get settled in to your vibe. Around 11:00ish, we begin to pick up the pace with some of your favorite uptempo DANCEHALL classics. By midnight, we’re on full blast with the DANCEHALL vibes until we shut down at 2am.
