SUMMARY:RISE Coalition Happy Helping Hour and Artisan Craft Sale
DESCRIPTION:RISE Coalition is an organization working to end the act of acid violence worldwide and help survivors of these horrific acts move forward in life supported and empowered. I was first struck by the survivors’ heartbreaking stories and then moved by their courage and strength. I also fell in love with the beautiful hand crafted pieces that the survivors make as a means to raise funds for themselves and the oraganization. I searched my heart to find a way to help. Certainly\, together\, we can do more than I can on my own. So friends\, here is where you come in. \nOn July 14th please come and do your part in helping these amazing men and women in a Happy Helping Hour at the Listing Loon. You will be able to purchase the beautiful artisan crafts and/or make a donation to the Acid Survivors Network. The LIsting Loon has also graciously offered to give 10% of sales during this special happy hour to help with the cause. So just a drink with friends will help. Amazing\, right?!? I know summer is busy\, but mark your calendars for this event and please stop in. Any contribution will go a long way. \nIf you know you can’t make it\, there are other ways to help. First\, go sign this petition. The only way to really help stop acid violence is to regulate the sale and distribution of acid. \nhttps://www.change.org/p/the-parliament-of-the-republic-of-uganda-we-call-on-parliament-to-pass-the-acid-attacks-prohibition-and-prevention-bill-2017?utm_source=embedded_petition_view \nSecondly\, you can find out more information about RISE\, make a donation\, or shop online. The jewelry and baskets are just so lovely.\nhttp://www.risecoalition.org \nThank you for helping these courageous survivors\, friends! I am always moved by your love and generosity. See you at the Happy Hour!

SUMMARY:Izzy’s and Urban Artifact Pickle Brew Release Party
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, July 14 from 4-8pm as we celebrate the release of the new collaboration between Izzy’s and Urban Artifact – Pickle! \nThis summer\, fans of Cincinnati’s iconic deli\, Izzy’s\, will have the opportunity to enjoy Izzy’s famous pickles in a whole new way – as a beer\, as Izzy’s partners with craft brewery\, Urban Artifact to launch Pickle. \nBased on a German-style wheat beer with a sour finish\, Urban Artifact’s Pickle is a traditional German Gose (pronounced “Goes-uh”) brewed with 1\,000lbs of cucumbers\, 2lbs of fresh dill\, 9lbs of sea salt\, and 1.25lbs of coriander per 30 BBL batch. The end result is a taste experience similar to that of biting into a fresh dill pickle. \n“Our brewing philosophy is to use only the best ingredients in our beers such as whole fruits\, spices and vegetables; no flavorings or extracts\,” said Scotty Hunter\, Chief of Strategic Development for Urban Artifact. “Izzy’s has the same mentality with everything they create and they’ve been a great partner to work with. Plus\, there is no better example of this philosophy than an Izzy’s pickle!” \nTo unveil Pickle to the public\, Urban Artifact will host a tapping and can release party on July 14\, 2017 from 4-8pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy Pickle in both cans and on draft\, with six-packs available for purchase. Adding to the festivities\, guests will enjoy complimentary “Izzy-tizers” from Izzy’s and will have the chance to walk away with fun Pickle swag. \n“In addition to Reubens and potato pancakes\, one of the things we are most known for at Izzy’s are our pickles\,” said John Geisen\, President of Izzy’s. “It’s been a thrill to work with Urban Artifact to bring the taste of our famous pickles to life as a craft beer.” \nIn addition to being available through the Urban Artifact taproom\, after the launch\, Pickle will be distributed in limited quantities at various retailers across the Tri-State as well as at select Izzy’s locations. \nUrban Artifact is located in Cincinnati’s Northside neighborhood at 1660 Blue Rock Street\, Cincinnati\, OH 45223. For more information\, visit http://www.artifactbeer.com or call (513) 620-4729. \nAbout Izzy’s:\nFounded in 1901 by the Kadetz family\, Izzy’s was the first Kosher style delicatessen west of the Alleghenies. Consistently named the “Best Deli in Cincinnati”\, and known as the home of the “World’s Greatest Reuben\,” Izzy’s still serves the classic homemade recipes Izzy Kadetz was handed down from his father dating back to 1901. To learn more\, visit http://www.izzys.com. \nAbout Urban Artifact:\nUrban Artifact celebrates “Wild Culture”\, both by the beers they artfully craft and the experiences they create in their taproom. Focusing on wild beers\, as well as bringing the best in local entertainment to their performance space\, Urban Artifact strives to be a destination for the Northside neighborhood and Cincinnati as a whole. Located on Blue Rock Street in the former St. Patrick’s church\, Urban Artifact is comprised of partners Scott Hand\, Bret Kollmann Baker\, and Scott Hunter.

SUMMARY:Live Soundtrack | Manos: The Hands of Fate
DESCRIPTION:“’Manos: the hands of fate’ is without a doubt the most inept and atrociously awful film ever made. Its poorness is so extreme that of itself it is the film’s strongest selling point.” \nChase Public would be more excited to announce this if we were going to watch a better movie\, but we’re not\, so\, so be it. Electronic musician wizes FRITZ PAPE – NEBBIE LOON – and MARC GOVERNANTI provide a live improvised soundtrack to the famously awful movie MANOS: The Hands of Fate. \nManos: The Hands of Fate is a 1966 American low-budget horror film. It was written\, directed\, and produced by Harold P. Warren who also starred in the film. It is widely recognized to be one of the worst films ever made. The film’s plot revolves primarily around a vacationing family who lose their way on a road trip. After a long drive in the Texas desert\, the family finds themselves trapped at a lodge maintained by a polygamous pagan cult\, and they attempt to escape as the cult’s members decide what to do with them. The film is infamous for its technical deficiencies\, especially its significant editing and continuity flaws; its soundtrack and visuals not being synchronized; tedious pacing; abysmal acting; and several scenes that are seemingly inexplicable or disconnected from the overall plot\, such as a couple making out in a car or The Master’s wives breaking out in catfights. \nWarren was an insurance and fertilizer salesman from El Paso\, Texas\, who produced the film as the result of a bet. He also starred in it\, alongside El Paso theater actors Tom Neyman and John Reynolds. Manos was an independent production by a crew with little or no background or experience in filmmaking and a very limited budget at its disposal. \n– \nChase Public\n1569 Chase Ave\nCincinnati\, OH 45223 \nWednesday\, July 12\nDoors 8:00\nSoundtrack 8:30 \nFree \nBYOB\, Respectfully. Disrespectful B will be shunned with great contempt.

SUMMARY:Josiah Wolf (WHY?)with Ofir Klemperer /Stoop Kids/Hanging Hearts
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a night of twisted experimental jazz\, haze and rock as we welcome in: \n/// josiah wolf with Ofir Klemperer/// \nJosiah Wolf is the drummer and multi-instrumentalist for the band WHY? (www.whywithaquestionmark.com). In 2003 Josiah self-released The josiah EP as a limited run tour CD. In March 2010 he released his first full-length solo LP\, titled Jetlag (www.anticon.com). Following the release he toured solo (opening for WHY?) across Europe. Soon after Liz Hodson joined the band and the duo began touring extensively across the US. Their live arrangement makes for a unique experience with both musicians playing multiple instruments (often at once)\, looping melodies and rhythms and creating interesting textures without the use of prerecorded sound. In the fall of 2010 they recorded a 6 song covers EP titled Under Lovers Covers (josiahwolflizhodson.bandcamp.com). They are currently working on a full length record together that will fuse the sounds of Liz’s vocal melodies and Josiah’s rhythmic stylings. \n/// Stoop Kids /// (New Orleans) \nStoop Kids’ sound is an eclectic mix of soul\, surf\, hip-hop\, doo-wop\, rock\, and jazz with a psychedelic pop aftertaste. This\, combined with their high-energy\, theatrical\, performances\, makes Stoop Kids unique and unpredictable. \n/// Hanging Hearts /// (CHI) \nHanging Hearts is a free-rock spirited Chicago-based trio. Described by European audiences as “hammering the walls between genres\,” their music bridges the gap between jazz\, rock\, and experimental music. The band features Chris Weller on tenor saxophone\, Cole DeGenova on keyboards\, and Devin Drobka on drums. \n$5 at the curtain\nAll Ages

SUMMARY:Glenn Jones (Thrill Jockey)\, Catfish-Fosco Duo\, Zijnzijn Zijnzij

Of Cul De Sac\, Thrill Jockey Records\, did a record with John Fahey!)\nhttp://www.thrilljockey.com/artists/glenn-jones \nBilly Catfish – Pete Fosco Duo\n(Premiere live performance from this hot new guitar duo)\nhttps://thekentuckygremlin.bandcamp.com/album/herzog1 \nZjinzjin Zjinzjin\n(Guitar soundscapes galore)\nhttps://zijnzijnzijnzijn.bandcamp.com \n———————————————– \nThe Comet\n4579 Hamilton Ave\nCincinnati\, OH\n45223 \n9pm / 21+ Free \n———————————————- \nGlenn Jones is a master of American Primitive Guitar\, a style invented in the late 1950s by John Fahey\, whose traditional fingerpicking techniques and wide-ranging influences were used to create modern original compositions. Jones\, who led the post-rock ensemble Cul de Sac\, brings his own made-up tunings\, the use of custom-crafted partial capos\, and a highly skilled picking style on both banjo and guitar\, to create personal compositions that are lyrical\, emotive and elegant. What sets him apart from the myriad guitarists playing today is his ability to tell stories with the guitar and banjo\, and to convey a range of emotions. This process starts with the compositions themselves and carries through to his selection of recording environment and engineer. \nFleeting was recorded in a house on the banks of the Rancocas Creek in Mount Holly\, New Jersey. Cozy\, cluttered with artifacts of a life well-lived (by its owner Bill Bolger)\, the house struck the right note for Jones and his recording engineer\, Laura Baird. Jones in particular likes spaces with character that are remote from the day-to-day world. Jones and Baird made no attempt to soundproof the recording environment\, happy to let sounds filtering in from the outdoors to become part of the listening experience. \nOne of Fleeting’s underlying themes is the past and the way places and people resonate in our lives. Jones reflects on the brevity — the fleetingness — of all things\, while also looking towards the future. “Spokane River Falls\,” which Jones calls his “water song\,” recalls the all-but-forgotten city of Spokane\, Washington\, where he was born. “Cléo Awake” and “Cléo Asleep” share the same melodies and the same inspiration — the newborn child of Jones’ friends (the conceit of “Cléo Asleep” is that Jones plays with a mute on the banjo — called The Happy Wife Banjo Mute — so as not to disturb Cléo\, no matter where in the world she is!). “In Durance Vile\,” one of the album’s more dissonant\, prickly tracks\, was originally written to accompany three poems by the abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky\, whose texts Jones found “absurd\, playful . . . sometimes cruel.” Two of the album’s songs are dedications to fellow guitarists (and friends) Robbie Basho and Michael Chapman. \nJones turned away from standard tuning years ago\, inventing tunings as a way of escaping the known. The pieces he writes in these tunings are his way of navigating new and unfamiliar landscapes. “But it’s my hope\,” he says\, “that what you hear are not the tunings and partial capos and all that\, but the music — the feeling within these pieces.” Fleeting is a journey that Jones invites his listeners to take with him.
