Their work often deals with the body’s relationship to the natural and synthetic world\, and language as a physical material. They are a junior at the Art Academy of Cincinnati.  \nOlivia Woosley: a socially awkward fiber artist\, attempting to make equally awkward poetry. \nRhee Lightner is currently enrolled as a student at the Art Academy of Cincinnati pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Photography. She is an intern for Emily Hanako Momohara\, a Cincinnati based photographer. She is a Maryland native who has shown work at the Washington County Arts Council. Exhibitions include: Evidence\, Minumentals\, and the Sagittarium Art Show: A Celebration of Art as Magick. In 2017 she has been featured in group shows at Pique Gallery\, Exhibition 13\, Wave Pool\, and the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center. DESCRIPTION:Talkin’ Music is a performance exploring the sound of scripted words. \nThe idea.\nWriters and actors know the rhythm and order in composed words. Media like cartoons\, plays\, and radio news reports are all written to be heard\, but they hold such different music in them. What makes these sounds pleasing?\nAnd what happens when these melodies are in the hands of musicians? \nThe prompt.\nOur musicians have been tasked with the following:\n1. Choose an audio clip of a person speaking written words.\n2. Compose an original piece of music containing the melody and intonation of the speaking. \nThe musicians.    \nAshley Greathouse – Ashley A. Greathouse is a Ph.D. student in musicology at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music\, with current research interests in eighteenth-century music\, rock\, and heavy metal. She is a soprano and an active instrumental performer on bassoon\, clarinet\, harp\,and piano. \nZach Larabee – Zach Larabee is a percussionist based in Cincinnati\, Ohio. He performs both improvised and composed material in a variety of styles and genres.  He received his Masters in Percussion from The University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music.  In addition to his solo work\, Larabee performs with the experimental sound trio Knee Play and the rock and roll band Sky Hank and Heady Weed.  Above all else\, he believes that making music should be fun\, and that everyone should get to define that for themselves. \nEva Patterson – Eva Patterson writes songs in attempt to take dark feelings more lightly. Melody and wordplay focused\, their influences are often in arias from Italian operas or tunes from mid century musicals studied over some years of vocal lessons. She’s currently studying gender and sexuality at UC\, figuring out how to run her vintage clothing storefront\, and playing the four-big-string-thing with Invitation To Love\, a 3-piece band tentative about accepting love or invitations of any kind. \nDeborah Clark Colón – Laugh\, and the fiddle laughs with you. Deborah Clark Colón has played her way across ten time zones\, from an Alaskan contra dance to Nashville’s Music Row to a pub in the south of France. She has performed\, recorded\, composed\, and taught Irish fiddle for over 25 years. Where next? DESCRIPTION:Happy December\, welcome to the last little bit of 2017.  What year it has been. \nChase Public is delighted to host a reading from poets Emily Rose Cole\, Amie Whittemore\, and M. Brett Gaffney.  We hope you’ll join us. \nEmily Rose Cole is the author of Love and a Loaded Gun\, a chapbook of persona poems from Minerva Rising Press. She has received awards from Jabberwock Review\, Philadelphia Stories\, Ruminate Magazine and the Academy of American Poets. Her poetry has appeared most recently in Nimrod\, Phoebe\, Raleigh Review\, and Southern Indiana Review\, among others. She holds an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and is pursuing her PhD at the University of Cincinnati\, where she teaches creative writing and composition. \nAmie Whittemore is the author of the poetry collection Glass Harvest (Autumn House Press\, 2016) and co-founder of the Charlottesville Reading Series in Virginia. Her poems have won multiple awards\, including a Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Prize\, and have appeared in The Gettysburg Review\, Sycamore Review\, Smartish Pace\, Cimarron Review\, and elsewhere. She teaches English at Middle Tennessee State University. \nM. Brett Gaffney holds an MFA in Poetry from Southern Illinois University. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday December 2nd from 6:00pm – 7:30pm Happen\, Inc. is hosting a trivia competition\, and our newest quarterly event\, Brain Freeze. We invite ten teams of five people to join in the competition. The cost of entering a team is $25 ($5 per team member). Our question master\, co-event planner\, and local teen Nolan Brown is preparing questions suitable for individuals of multiple generations with a focus on arts and culture. \nTeam sign ups begin November 1st\, with a deadline of November 24th. The team with the quickest hands and brightest minds will win the $100 first place prize and a trophy!
