A few years later\, they decided to get more serious about starting a group\, landing Richard Inman to play drums and taking on the name Near Earth Objects. The trio took its time developing material and chemistry before making its live debut in late 2013. \nLast summer\, Near Earth Objects released its first recorded effort with the four-song EP\nSituational Awareness\, which showcased the group’s progressive\, occasionally psychedelic\nstyle\, marked by an engaging stream-of-consciousness fluidity. The band’s imaginative\narrangements were on full display on the EP’s opening epic “Introduction to Feeling Something\,”\nas well as the closer “Serotonin Drift\,” which sounds like David Bowie and Pink Floyd\nwriting a winding Math Rock/Post Rock ballad for Secret Machines. \nMore recently\, Near Earth Objects added a fourth member — Daniel Walton — to provide\ncello for the band as it continues work on its first full-length. On the great album track “My\nMind\,” Walton’s presence is felt in the billowing\, sophisticated atmospherics he adds to\nthe proceedings\, a perfect compliment to the group’s expansive sound.

DESCRIPTION:Check Out a Who’s Who of Local Musicians Doing Covers of Your Favorite Songs AND Help Your Neighbors Eat?! \nYou can do BOTH on Sunday\, December 17\, 8:30pm-1am\, at Northside Tavern at the TOSSED SALAD: POP-UP BAND COMPETITION & FOOD DRIVE!  \nWHAT IS TOSSED SALAD?\nIt’s like “band in a hat” with a twist for charity (Freestore Foodbank). Musicians submitted their name and instrument on an event page back in late October. They were then randomly drawn at that event to form a pop-up band\, and three songs were drawn for each band\, from which they’d eventually select two to perform on the 17th. Songs were submitted by the general public for a $1 donation per song to the Freestore Foodbank. \nPop-up bands have had almost a month and a half to learn the songs – and are free to perform them in any style. For example\, a band gets the song “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and choose to play it as Ronnie James Dio\, or a Deftones song\, which they perform VH1 style — on stools. Bands are encouraged to have fun with the band names\, costumes and styles.  \nA panel of judges will award a prize for Best Band ($200) AND the two people that submitted the winning band’s songs will each receive $50. \nADMISSION: $5 cover OR 5 canned/boxed goods (meat products\, veggies/fruits/soup\, mac and cheese\, personal care items) donations. \nALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO FREESTORE FOODBANK. You can also make a direct monetary donation to the Freestore at http://freestorefoodbank.org/. DESCRIPTION:Two sets every Sunday\, at 7:30pm & 9pm. \nThese Sunday night sessions at the Comet are informal and known to draw a diverse audience from children to senior citizens from all walks of life. The repertoire of the band is very broad covering numerous genres in the bluegrass framework. Audiences soon discover that in addition to fine instrumental work\, each member sings as well\, making the whole greater than the sum of it’s parts.  \nThe Comet Bluegrass All-Stars were assembled in 1996 as the Sunday night house band at The Comet. The band soon gained popularity beyond the Comet lounge\, and has performed at the opening ceremonies of the World Choir Games as guests of the world renowned Cincinnati Pops Orchestra; opened for bands such as Del McCoury\, Ricky Skaggs\, and Sam Bush; and has won numerous music awards.
