SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Terence Hammonds and the R.F. Kampfer Archive
DESCRIPTION:How are you going to bring down the state\nwhen you’re the one propping it up? \nTerence Hammonds and selections from the R.F. Kampfer Revolutionary Literature Archive \nOpening reception Friday February 16th\, 6-10pm\nArtist Dinner Saturday February 17th\, 7pm**\nFebruary 16—March 25\, 2018 \nAnytime Dept. is proud to present How are you going to bring down the state when you’re the one propping it up? an exhibition of work by Terence Hammonds\, presented alongside a selection of historical ephemera from the personal collection of Brad Duncan\, known as the R.F. Kampfer Revolutionary Literature Archive. This exhibition is an articulation of the relationship between art and activism. \nTerence Hammonds’ work explores the significance of materials of radical social justice movements throughout US history. With a background in printmaking\, Hammonds takes a multidisciplinary approach to his interpretation and re-presentation of source material\, lovingly and transparently reviving the language of political radicalism and utopian idealism. For this exhibition\, Hammonds focuses on the narrative of affiliation and commitment as told through pins and buttons produced by movements ranging from civil rights\, feminism\, labor\, black power and gender equality. \nWhile Hammonds’ work gives us an image of a movement\, Duncan’s selection of radical ephemera supplies access to the history of grass-roots image as message; a time before the aesthetics of the left had been translated into a pop cultural style. Duncan protects\, preserves and honors these movements and their material histories\, giving insight to issues still pertinent today. \nBrad Duncan has been collecting printed materials related to the radical Left and liberation movements for over twenty years. He is the co-editor\, with Interference Archive\, of the new book Finally Got the News: The Printed Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left\, 1970-1979 (Common Notions\, 2017)\, which is based largely on materials from his collection. He is a union library worker and lives in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. \nTerence Hammonds is a Cincinnati\, OH based artist who uses the platform of printmaking to express ideas about politics and race in a variety of media. By screen-printing figures from 1960- 70’s’s civil disobedience/ social justice movements on ceramics and creating drawings of movement buttons and protest signs\, Hammonds monumentalizes heirlooms of cultural transgression. Hammonds received his BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, and Tufts University. \n**Dear Friends\, \nWe would be so pleased to have you join us for a special dinner produced with us (Anytime Dept.)\, chef Jared Miller\, and artist Terence Hammonds (Cincinnati\, OH) in honor of the opening his exhibition\, How are you going to bring down the state when you’re the one propping it up? Terence’s works will be presented alongside a selection of historical ephemera from the personal collection of Brad Duncan\, known as the R.F. Kampfer Radical Literary Archive. This exhibition investigates the mutual relationship between art and activism. \nDinner will be held at the Hoffner Lodge on the second floor\, just above the gallery space on Saturday February 17th at 7PM. \nDinner will be a call and response between Terence Hammonds and chef Jared Miller as they share ideas about history\, presence and community. \nFor every exhibition\, we at Anytime Dept. host a dinner\, working collaboratively and thematically with the artists as a gesture of friendship and community. We see this as an opportunity to extend the art practice outside of the limitations of the gallery\, and an opportunity to engage other senses and forms of relating to one another and to exhibitions. \nThe meals are family style and casual\, and we sincerely hope to be able to sit down with you and share a meal\, a few drinks\, and introduce you to the incredible artists we are working with. If you are interested joining us\, we are asking for a $40 suggested donation per person which covers the meal and drinks for the evening. Larger donations will support the dinners and help us cover exhibition related costs and are always welcome. \nPlease RSVP by Saturday February 10th to let us know if you can make it and any dietary restrictions so we can try to accommodate all diets. Donations can be made via paypal @anytimedept@gmail.com or in cash the night of the dinner. \nLooking forward to breaking bread\,\nYours\,\nAnytime Dept.

SUMMARY:Rockstead / Freak Mythology / Tangled Roots
DESCRIPTION:/// Rockstead /// \nCincinnati\, Ohio’s Rockstead is living proof that spreading good vibes and positivity\, while also having a hellacious work ethic\, will get you to where you want to be in life\, both physically and spiritually. After a breakout 2015 that included multiple music festivals and concerts at venues across Ohio\, Kentucky\, Indiana\, and Illinois\, – and having already completed two albums in that time span – Rockstead shows no signs of slowing their mission of bringing people together through music. Using this message\, Rockstead combines a unique mix of reggae\, rock\, and punk derived from multitude of influences ranging from 311 to Sublime all the way to The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Foo Fighters. \n/// Freak Mythology /// \nFormed in late 2012\, members Brad Wehlitz\, Travis Hanna\, Ryan Shephard\, and bass player Caroline Joseph blend together a mixture of funk and blues rock with psychedelia creating a sound considered by many to be “modern classic rock”. Currently working album #2 while playing shows around Ohio. \n/// The Tangled Roots /// \nAn electro-funk octet from West Virginia\, The Tangled Roots offer an eclectic musical sound which combines diverse elements such as funk\, EDM\, soul\, hip hop\, fusion\, neo-electronica\, rock\, and a touch of jazz. \n$5 at the curtain\nAll Ages

Every Thursday (well most of them) we invite a brewery into H/G so you can get a chance to try some new beers and learn a little bit more about the craft. \nOn Thursday February 15th we will be joined by our good friends just down the street from Urban Artifact for a tap takeover event. \nTap List:\nPalmistry (2017) – A double version of the classic Berliner Pale Ale (A tart pale ale) infused with over 2\,200lbs of tropical fruit per batch\, roughly 1.2 lbs. per gallon! Pineapple\, kumquat & white guava give this beer huge tropical juice flavors and aromas with just enough tartness to balance it all out. \nThe Gadget – A deep royal purple color hints at the lush berry fruit flavors to come. Aroma of fresh picked raspberry & blackberry with a whiff of clean malt\, all work in concert to mask the coming wave of tartness. On first sip\, you may very well think this is a fruit smoothie\, but then it hits you. An impressively tart kick right in the cranial nerve. Mouthwateringly delicious\, fruity\, and refreshing. \nPinwheel – Bursting with orange aromas accompanied by bready wheat malt flavors and bright acidity\, this Spring Gose is a bright and vernal treat. Over 30 lbs per barrel of the 16th century citrus\, kumquats\, went into making the refreshing example of a Gose. \nFinn (Variant) – A Tart Ple Ale\, to be hopped like a citrusy American Pale Ale with an all barley grain bill\, yet brewed with a crisp tartness like a Berliner Weisse. Big fruit and apricot hop flavors lead the charge. Hops: French Triskel & Mosaic \nWe are partnering with Wordplay Cincy in the month of February and will be donating 10% of the proceeds from the draft sales\, including crowler and growler fills all day on Thursday. Wordplay helps Cincinnati’s young people fulfill their potential by making connections through reading\, writing and storytelling. \nNorthside NOW

SUMMARY:Vocalist Lynne Scott with the BWBB - Live at Urban Artifact
DESCRIPTION:LYNNE SCOTT was born into a musical family. Her mother\, Teresa\, taught piano\, and her father\, Bruce\, was a gifted clarinetist who led an orchestra on radio for many years and was a well known music educator. Her four brothers are all musical\, one of them a highly regarded west coast jazz and classical trombonist.\nLynne is blessed with perfect pitch\, and can “sight sing” virtually any music set before her. Her versatility and professionalism have made her a favorite with musicians and audiences alike. Although Lynne’s first love is performing “standard pop” (Gershwin\, Kern\, Berlin \, Porter\, etc.) she is quite an adaptable singer and can swing with the best of them. She has a repertoire of literally hundreds of songs and continually adds to it\, and (band leaders take note) actually KNOWS the keys she sings them in.\nLynne has appeared regularly on Midwest radio and TV\, and has played most of the top venues in the area. She appeared on the Len Mink Show\, the Nick Clooney Show\, the Vivian Della Chiesa Show\, The Bob Braun Afternoon Show\, and the 1180 Club Radio show. She spent ten years singing with the Teddy Raymore Quartet and was featured “girl singer” with the Pete Wagner Orchestra/Band for several years\, still appearing with them occasionally. She also sang with the vocalese group “Close Company” for three years.\nFrom 2003 to 2011\, Lynne appeared weekends with the highly acclaimed “Frank Vincent Trio” at the Celestial in the Incline Lounge at Highland Towers \, atop Mount Adams until Frank took a leave of absence due to illness. She can now be seen regularly at the Cincinnati Netherland Hilton Hotel in the Palm Court Lounge with the Jim Hart Trio. \nExperience the magic and power of Cincinnati’s legendary 16-piece big band! 35 years and running with that special someone this Valentine’s Day! \nThe Blue Wisp Big Band performs at Urban Artifact every Wednesday at 8:30. Be a part of the scene that everyone is talking about as the band delivers a one-of-a-kind experience for you and your guests in one of the hippest environments in the city! \n$15 cover charge for the music lounge \nUrban Artifact\n1660 Blue Rock Street\nCincinnati\, OH 45223\nhttp://www.artifactbeer.com/
